What is LNG?

LNG is Liquid Natural Gas obtained from the liquefaction of natural gas through cooling and condensation.

The product of this process is an odourless and transparent mixture of hydrocarbons.

LNG is kept in liquid form through cryopreservation at -162 °C, and through storage inside cryogenic tanks.

Among the advantages of LNG is its reduced volume compared to gas in gaseous form (600 times smaller) allows for easy transport and storage.

LNG plants

Liquid Methane plants are for industrial and automotive use. LNG makes it possible to overcome the absence of a city distribution network or a methane pipeline to supply the various utilities and finds application in the dairy and agri-food industries and in many other sectors. LNG is also considered 'ECO FUEL' and has therefore been included in development and de-carbonisation plans.

National and international policies have defined a strategy to reduce the pollution caused by traditional fuels (Heavy Oil, LPG, Diesel, etc.) in the fields of mobility and energy production, using LNG or, more generally, Natural Gas, as an alternative fuel and combustible.

Performed the first LNG refuelling on a ship

With great satisfaction, we announce the first refuelling of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) in Sicily on the ship Nerea, a significant step towards greater sustainability and environmental responsibility in the maritime transport sector. The operation was carried out by Molgas Energia, the European leader in Liquefied Natural Gas and partner for Italy of Bianco Petroli, marking a turning point in the longstanding issue regarding the difficulty of refuelling ships capable of using LNG, as well as for the increasingly numerous fleets of trucks converted to LNG.
